Casita para la Vida, formed by an interdisciplinary team that works voluntarily, aims to put an end to undignified living conditions in the poor rural and urban areas of the Dominican Republic. Many households consist of single mothers and their several children. Most women don’t have any formal training and their income is low and irregular. Since they lack the necessary means to maintain their houses, these houses will decay more and more. The undignified living conditions resulting from this will be remedied by replacing the old wooden walls and zinc sheets with new ones, by exchanging mud floors with cement screed, by converting latrines into toilets with connections to water and wastewater pipes, and by applying new paint, etc. 
By involving the families in this building project, the team aims to increase their acceptance of the construction and to give them the opportunity to develop skills that would let them get technical jobs and improve their living conditions.
