In the #MissionResponsible competition our project ‘Casita para la Vida’ was awarded first place. Casita para la Vida is an initiative that aims to provide the mothers with a safe roof over their heads. With the prize money, we decided to buy building materials and some tools to build a small kitchen with walls of concrete blocks, with a concrete top, cement floor and a tin roof. The kitchen could serve as refuge for the family in case of hurricane.

95 Dry Toilets project - right to sanitation
April 15, 2019
95 Toilets for Batey Mata Los Indios is a project of Casita para la Vida to tackle the issue of sanitation and open defecation which is linked to malnutrition, stunting and increased diarrheal disease, and risk of rape and sexual assault, particularly for women and girls, because of the lack of privacy.
Empowering people and communities
CASITA PARA LA VIDA’s 95 Dry Toilets project
Currently, two billion people (25 million of them in Latin America) have to deal daily with the lack of safe toilets and withstand the indignity of defecating in the open air. Soon we will start with the pilot project in the area of Mata Los Indios and Yabacao, where more than 200 families face this problem. These families may have access to ecological toilets and health education. The lack of sanitary facilities is a health problem that affects us all.
As soon as the project start, we'll share photos on facebook
